Welcome to the College of Business
The School of Business was authorized on July 1, 1972, through the merger of the Division of Business and the Department of Economics. Subsequently, the School was departmentalized and today it includes the Departments of Accounting; Economics, Finance and General Business; Management and Marketing; and Entrepreneurship and Professional Development. Additionally, the School has a Career Services Office, Business Graduate Programs, a Center for Professional Development and Entrepreneurship, and a Center for Business Development and Economic Research. On July 1, 2003, the School of Business evolved to the College of Business. The College is accredited by AACSB–the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The College of Business is a dynamic institution. Since its inception, it has experienced substantial growth in faculty size, student enrollment, and facilities. It currently operates several computer labs and computer instruction has been integrated into the curriculum. The Center for Professional Development and Entrepreneurship provides facilities to view tapes, participate in mock interviews, and utilize desktop publishing resources. In addition to the regular faculty of about 41 full-time faculty members, the College has frequent visitors and lecturers from business, government, and nonprofit organizations who share their insight and experience through professional development activities. The students have ample opportunity to interact with academics, top researchers, executives and managers from businesses and industries from the Jackson Metropolitan area and around the nation.
